Life Lately #25

{Sushi time // Throwback Thursday // Kitty cuddles}

So I've done loads this week, but mostly left my phone firmly in my bag. Be present and all that jazz. Wednesday we went to a circus! Adam's sister had free tickets so we went. Even though it was geared towards little kids, there were some really cool bits for adults too.
My favourite act was an amazing acrobat guy, who walked the tight rope, did swing tricks, and even hung down from the swing - by his teeth - and then spun like crazy. It was intense and I feared for his life the whole time. It did prompt me too look up Cirque du Soleil tickets though and turns out they are coming to Sheffield, which is about twenty minutes away so we are going to try to get tickets.

Friday I went and met our friends new baby Sophie, who was a week old and so cute. Super proud of them. After that, Fran and I headed to her house and went to a charity horse race night put on by her mom, to help raise money for their theatre company Castaways. It was something different to do and I had a lot of fun.
{Doncaster beer fest}

Saturday we went to a beer fest! More on that later in the week, but I'll just say I am a supreme beer picker, as I loved all the ones I chose to try.

Sunday I went to town and did a little shopping picking up bits I needed and being really good and not getting anything I didn't need. Then Adam and I went to the cinema to see Divergent. Now, I will tell you I haven't seen any previews for it, so didn't know what to expect. I have however just finished the first book and am onto the second, so was excited to see what they did in the movie. I was pretty disappointed to be honest. The movie was good in it's own right, but I feel like they didn't do a good enough job developing Tris, one of the main characters. I also felt like they didn't do a great job of defining the factions and why the groups were split up, and Adam asked me a few questions of things throughout the movie so it goes to show that I think they could have done a bit better. Just my two cents.

Have you seen Divergent or read the books? What were your thoughts?

  4. Hmm... i might wait till it's not in theatres anymore to watch Divergent. I really liked the book, so I don't want to waste money on something that might potentially be disappointing. x

  5. My mom took me to a couple Cirque du Soleil shows and they were so much fun!

    I have the Divergent trilogy on my book shelf, staring at me right now. I honestly don't know why I haven't read them by now. But now I have to wait until the 1st to start because I'm taking part in a reading challenge and that's when it starts.

  6. I can't believe you made sushi, was it difficult? As for Divergent I'm going to see it tonight. Although now I'm worried it'll be rubbish, but maybe if I lower my expectations I'll enjoy it!

  7. Yeah, Adam liked the movie, but I kept telling him he has to read the book to understand everything better.

  8. I think if I saw the film first, it'd have been ok, but the books are loads better I think.

  12. Ooo good to hear! I've never been to one so hopefully it works out. I hope you like the books as much as I did! They were an interesting read. I'm about halfway through number two now.

  13. It's only the second time I've made it! It's a lot easier than I thought it would be, it's just the making of the rice that I can't seem to get right, mine wasn't as cooked as it should have been this time. If you haven't read the books yet you will probably like the movie. I was disappointed that they took some relationships away and changed it a bit.

  15. Ah, sounds like so much fun! I was totally drooling over your gorgeous sushi on Insta! I've read the books but haven't seen the movie. But I feel like I've heard a lot of similar thoughts on the movie--that it wasn't super great. That being said, I will still totally see it :)

    I love seeing acrobats at the circus. I haven't read or seen Divergent yet. I may wait for it to come on TV, and try to read it in the mean time. Looks like a lovely week you've been having!

  18. Yay beer festivals!
    I haven't read Divergent. It is on my list, but there are a lot of books on my to-read list. Haha. I didn't realise they'd made a film of it - don't think it's out here yet.

  19. I'm getting better at it! I feel like I don't put enough filling in though. I still enjoyed the movie, it's just the case with books and movies isn't it!

  20. If you want to see the film I'd see it before reading the book! Then the book can fill in all the gaps.

  21. I hadn't realised it either until Adam mentioned about seeing it! I hadn't seen any previews or anything.
